Open Positions

We’re always looking for invested volunteers to help us spread the word about the Literate Earth Project, engage donors, and help us with our operations in Uganda! Here are some of the volunteer positions we’re actively recruiting for:

Co-CEO

Job Duties:
Our current CEO founded The Literate Earth Project ten years ago, but his career path is outside of the nonprofit world. The organization has a solid base of operations and has won awards for its work, but without someone at the helm who wants nonprofit leadership to be their professional path, we will not reach our full potential. This person will work hand-in-hand with the current CEO with a plan to move from co-CEO to sole CEO over a 12-month period. While every leader has their own style, The Literate Earth Project is not a place where we micromanage our team. While the CEO should be aware of and get updates from the executive team, there is no expectation that they will do anyone else’s job. We have a very capable team that has been cultivated over the course of the last few years. Outside of being aware of and holding the team accountable, fundraising a major part of being a nonprofit CEO. Speaking with donors and using the existing team and network to grow that, is a must. We don’t expect that to happen immediately, but the hope is this will eventually become a part-time job and ultimately a full-time job. Those salary develops will come from new fundraising over time. This is a great opportunity to be at the helm of a growing organization and will have huge benefits for career development.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have some leadership experience. Given this is starting as a volunteer

position, we realize we can’t have massive expectations of previous experience. Make your case to us about why you would be well suited to be the leader of our organization. Applicant should have experience with or an understanding of the multiple stakeholder model that is so key to nonprofit success. You are not running a company here as a sole decision maker. Decision making ability is held by donors, board of directors and staff. The ability to navigate that and coalesce around a vision while ensuring everyone feels heard and stays on- board is vital. Applicant should have worked or traveled extensively in a developing country.

Send your resume and a one page written response to info@theliterateearthproject.org telling us why you would be the right person to lead our organization.
