LEP Opens Two New Libraries

 

In the first two weeks of September, The Literate Earth Project welcomes two new libraries, including our first ever library located in a refugee settlement camp, serving over 5,000 pupils.

AYILO 1 Refugee Settlement Camp Library

Located in the Adjumani District in the Northern Region of Uganda, the AYILO 1 Library will serve Ayilo 1A Primary School's 5,000+ pupils. In addition, Adjumani District's 13 other settlement camps will also have access to the 2,500 library books andLEP's literacy services including reading programs and structured reading classes.

LEP's Country Director, Derrick P. Kyeranga, was welcomed into AYILO 1 Settlement Camp by SPEAK founder, Kuol Arou Kuolner and other members of the organization. Kuolner founded SPEAK to bridge the gap between the local Uganda community and the displaced members of AYILO 1. SPEAK members assisted in offloading LEP supplies and equipment; they will also be responsible for the library's day-to-day operations.

Mwerwerwe Primary School Library (LAHU - USA, Lend A Hand Uganda - USA)

A non-profit organization, LAHU - USA, Lend a Hand Uganda - USA, is found in the town of Ssabagabo, located in Uganda's capital and largest city, Kampala. LEP's second library opened in September provides reading material and resources Mwerwerwe Primary School, which is managed by LAHU.
